Did you buy the book? It's good; I bought it cheap (ISBN 1858684641, Carlton Books) for about £3 many years ago and enjoyed it very much. At just £1 it's a steal.

It makes a good companion to David Dodds' "Complete Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics"; although it skips some of Dodds' scholarship it makes up for that by including lots of interesting anectodes, well-reasoned criticism, and punning wit. "My goal here", the author says, "is to present the best stories I could find relating to the Dead's music ...".

I can't answer your question, though. It makes a lot of sense to me that the band would have wanted to release these songs before too long.

I bought it. The cover price was £17.99, and it was in good condition so I didn't have to think too long. I have the Dodds annotated as well so it will be interesting to compare notes.

I'm tempted to track down good versions of these songs like Bocajoe and put together a CD (when I have too much time on my hands).

Who knows - I might even call myself Hippo Records and release a limited edition.
